CPC Taiwan launches tree planting initiative


TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Chinese Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Taiwan went green -- along with a hundred CPC gas stations nationwide -- while CPC executives launched a tree planting activity yesterday to mark Earth Day, an environmental

event that has become an increasingly political and corporate issue.


Thirty-eight years after Earth Day began as a series of grass-roots movements about environmental conservation and pollution, April 24 has become an occasion to focus attention on human-generated climate change and the policies around it -- a topic not on the public's awareness in 1970.

The method for getting the message across has certainly evolved. Last year, the state-owned oil company planted hundred of thousands of trees in land plots scattered all across the country, on the basis of 1,200 trees per hectare of land.
