A welcome news from Ahmedabad

AHMEDBAD: The axe is ready to fall on builders, real-estate developers and mall owners who have till now flouted tree norms with impunity while constructing swanky malls, shopping arcades and multiplexes.

One visit to any one of the malls on Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway or at Law Garden gives the real picture of an urban plan bereft of any green space.

According to Gujarat Town Planning and Urban Development Act 1976 and regulations of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), those applying for development permission at the rate of one tree for every 100 square metres of building unit, have to show the site plan/layout plan to concerned authorities for approval. Also, the trees have to be guarded by trees guards and shall be maintained.
