Tree planting and care series


Shawnee County Extension Master Gardeners will present a three-part series on tree planting and care in September.

Sessions are free, but preregistration is recommended by calling the Shawnee County Extension office at 232-0062, ext. 0. Each will be from 7 to 9 p.m. in the meeting room on the upper southwest side of the Extension building, 1740 S.W. Western.

Topics and presenters are:

Sept. 16: Defective trees, with Kim Bomberger, district community forester for the Kansas Forest Service; and pruning, with Adam Moser, Topeka city forester.

Sept. 23: Abiotic problems of trees (environmental problems), with Charles Long, professor of horticulture (retired); and recommended trees and proper planting of trees, with Tim McDonald, community forest coordinator for the Kansas Forest Service.

Sept. 30: Insects, disease problems and tree health care, tying it all together, with R.O. Brown, arborist and former president of the Kansas Arborists Association.
