Tree planting instructions for Shawnee area residents who ordered free trees supplied by the Apache and Oklahoma Tree Bank Foundations have been scheduled by the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce Beautification for Sept. 7, 11, and 16 at the Shawnee Public Library.
The session on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 7, will begin at 2:15 p.m. in the community room and will last approximately thirty minutes. Sessions on Thursday, Sept. 11, and Tuesday, Sept. 16, will begin at 7:15 p.m. in the same location.
Additional tree planting sessions will be scheduled in the second and third weeks of October and will be announced to newspapers and on the City of Shawnee and Shawnee Chamber of Commerce websites. Those who requested the free trees agreed to attend one of these meetings.
Shawnee area residents requested almost 18,000 trees, conservatively valued at over $300,000. The shipment date is not set, but will probably be in late October or early November. Trees will be delivered to the Shawnee Airport for pick up. Information about days and times to get the trees will be widely distributed.
