City welcomes public for meeting on tree-planting project


VINELAND — The city’s Environmental Commission will hold an informational meeting on Thursday about the next phase of the state’s Cool Cities program.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, located on the second floor of City Hall, 640 E. Wood St. It will strictly be a meeting to tell residents more about the program and its goals, said Diane Amico, chairwoman for Vineland’s Environmental Commission.

City officials recently sent blue, orange and yellow notices to the residents living in the area where the next phase of trees will be planted, Amico said.

The Cool Cities program planted about 1,300 trees in the city during a two-month period at the end of 2008 and want to plant at least 500 more this spring, she said.

The new trees will be planted in a residential area between the Boulevard and Valley Avenue and along Park Avenue and Hendee Road, Amico said
