NAADS advised to embrace tree planting

The National Agriculture Advisory Service (NAADS) programme should encourage people to plant trees, an official from the National Forestry Authority has appealed.

Rebecca Sabaganzi, a coordinator in the forestry authority, said concentrating on projects like rearing cows and goats would not help when water levels are reducing due to limited forest cover.

“You must be creative because the air we are breathing is cleaned by trees,” Sebaganzi said.

She was presenting a paper during a workshop in Bushenyi town on Thursday. Participants from Bushenyi, Ibanda, Kamwenge and Mbarara districts attended.

Sabaganzi also appealed to the participants to sensitise the community on forestry issues.

Bushenyi district chairman Longino Ndyanabo urged the forestry authority to restrict tourists who only come to collect herbs for manufacturing medicine.
