NMPT launches tree plantation programme


MANGALORE: As part its commitment towards creating a pollution free environment on the port premises, New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) launched a
tree plantation programme at the NMPT nursery school here on Thursday.

Inaugurating the programme by planting saplings, P Tamilvannan, chairman, expressed happiness over the various projects taken up by the NMP Mahila Samaj for the betterment of the society.

A press release from S Gopalakrishna, traffic manager, NMPT, here on Saturday stated that he chairman assured all cooperation from port management for continuing this tree plantation on a massive scale. Maheshwari Tamilvanan, president of NMP Mahila Samaj, members and heads of departments planted saplings at various locations.

Tamilvannan, on Friday reviewed measures taken to arrest pollution in order to maintain a pollution free environment at the port and port premises. Representatives of users assured full support in stopping pollution while handling bulk cargo at the port, which has already taken up various measures to reduce dust pollution by water sprinkling, regular cleaning of roads, putting up barricades, concretization of roads, and so on.
